Our New Hedgerow

Our hedge saplings arrived at our school. ordered from the Tree Council, delivered from Tom Adams Fruit Tree Nursery, on Friday 3rd March. We kept them in water over the weekend.

Then, as it was going to be a busy week, we ‘heeled’ then into damp compost so they would last better until we could plant them on Friday 10th. A trench was dug for the hedge, but on further advice, they were to be planted further away – the original trench will be used for wildflowers. Pupils came out in groups to help plant the hedgerow.

Thank you to our premises officer for working with pupils to clear the line of grass for the plantings. Also thank you to our parent helper who offered to come and and help dig and plant. At the end of the afternoon, all the hedgerow we have so far was planted – we hope to receive more plants soon to make the hedgerow thicker.
Now we will wait for the wildlife to arrive (after a few years).
